About This
- What Himself Means: 'Himself' is the Irish word for the man of the house, not a name but the way Irish speakers mark his particular place in that home. Painted in green across the basketweave body of the mug, it sits above the hand-painted shamrocks, Saint Patrick's 5th-century emblem of the Trinity.
- Construction and Capacity: The mug is formed from Fine Parian China, Belleek's ceramic body, lighter and more translucent than standard bone china with a pale ivory surface. It holds 12 fluid ounces (325ml), stands 4.5 inches tall and 4.3 inches wide, and passes through 16 pairs of hands, with any imperfect piece destroyed rather than sold.
- The Basketweave Story: The basketweave embossed across this mug has covered the Belleek Shamrock collection since the 1880s, its form drawn from the woven wickerwork baskets of Irish rural life. The raised pattern runs from foot to rim across the full body, forming the backdrop against which the 'Himself' script and shamrocks are painted.
- A Daily Celebration: This mug ships in the Belleek gift box, ready to give to any man worth celebrating: a father, a husband, a brother, or a grandfather. It is built for daily use, and each morning the word 'Himself' is in his hand with his coffee.
- Belleek Since 1857: Belleek has been made in County Fermanagh, Ireland since 1857, with the backstamp on every piece confirming its origin and allowing collectors to date the year of production. This mug is part of the Shamrock collection, which runs from a single piece through to a full table service.
